Natural History and Horticulture
For those interested in the natural history of Trinidad and horticulture farming, we offer this tour.
Drive to the flat lands of central Trinidad. Amongst the rice and cane fields and trees
in the surrounding area see many Herons, Egrets, Savanna Hawks, Yellow Warblers and much more.
Then take a short walk around a lily pond on the outskirts of the Caroni swamp where Ospreys
fish, Caimans cruise, and the beautiful Wattled Jacana hops from lily to lily. You may even see
the exquisite Purple Gallinule.
Drive through the town of St. Joseph (the first Spanish settlement in Trinidad) to Maracas
Valley and stop at the foothills of El Tucuche (the second highest mountain in Trinidad).
Enjoy a local 3-course meal served at a gorgeous Horticulture farm - Little Garden. After
relaxing, take an easy tour around the farm to see the exotic tropical flowers grown there.
Relax and sip tea or coffee and watch many birds having their evening meal before roosting
for the night.
The walks are very easy. Departure time is 10:00 am and you return at about 7:00 p.m.
