Red Howler Monkey

This amazing primate is easiest seen in the Nariva Swamp / Bush Bush area. Head off to the East Coast of Trinidad and drive through miles of Coconut Palm Trees lining the road as it hugs the coast. Then you arrive at Nariva Swamp, Trinidad's largest freshwater swamp. Bush Bush is a peninsula that juts out into Nariva. Hiking along a flat trail into Bush Bush one can access the Monkey viewing area. The Howlers can be found among the branches of the larger tress of the Seasonal Evergreen Tropical Forests that dominates this area. Since the Howlers are very mobile it may take very little effort or a lot sweat and effort will be needed to see them. This area also offers many other wildlife specimens, birds like the Black-crested Antshrike, Silvered Antbird, Gallinules, Macaws or Butterflies like the Blue Emperor Morpho.
